Nifong sentence: special prosecutor Charles Davis says right message sent
Former Durham District Attorney Mike Nifong will spend a day in jail, punishment for his zealous prosecutorial tactics that could have sent three innocent men to the same place for much longer.
Louisburg attorney Charles Davis, who served as special prosecutor in the two-day hearing that ended on Friday said Nifong’s sentence sends the right message.

There was no rest for this writing spider over the Labor Day weekend, spotted working in a local garden. Although a bit threatening in size, the striking spider is not harmful to humans and thrives on insects such as flies and mosquitoes.

New Bunn officer works high school hallways
BUNN — The Board of Commissioners agreed during a special called meeting Friday to hire a school resource officer.
By unanimous vote, the board tabbed Doug Elliot as its school resource officer, and he’ll be responsible for securing Bunn High School.

Leapin’ lizard! Animal control hosts ‘Miss Izzy’
Officers with the county’s Animal Control Office were expecting to find a home this week for a unique visitor.
Animal Control Officer Maylon Edwards responded to a house in Youngsville last Wednesday after a property owner reported that a previous resident had left an iguana in the home.

JAMESVILLE -- A long trip toward the coast proved to be a profitable journey last Friday for the Bunn Wildcats.
Bunn’s stingy defense limited host Jamesville to just 42 total yards, and the Wildcats went on to post a 48-0 decision in a non-conference football contest.

Warriors shut out Red Rams
LOUISBURG -- Louisburg got the victory, but Franklinton made a statement during last Friday’s non-conference football contest at Warrior Field.

Reekie’s side is on a roll at Louisburg College
LOUISBURG -- Already revered as one of the school’s all-time best men’s players, Adam Reekie hopes to make his mark at Louisburg College again -- this time as the women’s soccer coach.
Reekie, who starred at LC from 2001-03, has returned to the campus as the Lady Hurricanes’ skipper. Results have been positive so far, as the Lady Hurricanes are off to a 3-0 start.
