Meth lab busted up
Agents with the county’s Multi-Agency Narcotics Unit charged two Franklin County residents with operating a methamphetamine lab.
According to an incident report by Sheriff’s Deputy J. Davis, officers with M.A.N.U. went to 1637 N.C. 98 West on Tuesday to investigate allegations that the home was being used to manufacture meth.

Flextronics is closing down
YOUNGSVILLE — Flextronics will shut down its Franklin County plant, leaving 750 employees wondering about their futures.
Human Resources Manager Troy O’Donnell confirmed the closure Friday after the Youngsville plant was notified on Thursday.

TDA continues funding for community events
The Franklin County Tourism Development Authority recommended that the county support two community events and one private enterprise.
The county’s occupancy tax has generated $94,475 since collections began in February 2006 and, on Wednesday night, the Authority (TDA) recommended that the county spend a total of $7,655 to support Frankenfest on Main; Hill Ridge Farms’ Fall Harvest and Pumpkin Festival; and a triathlon at Lake Royale.

Hundreds of cyclists roll into town
A traveling band of brothers and sisters called Louisburg home Wednesday, one stop on a week-long trip from the mountains to the coast.
Cycle North Carolina’s annual Mountains to the Coast bicycle tour brought about 1,000 cyclists to Louisburg, where they camped at Louisburg College or stayed at local hotels or bed and breakfast establishments.

Annual Shriners’ Fish Fry
The annual Shrine Club Fish Fry was held Wednesday. Proceeds benefit a network of 22 Shriners‘ Hospitals for Children, which care for crippled and burned children. Vincent Wood provides drive-through service for a customer.
