Investigators arrested a trio of Youngsville residents charged with robbing a gas station at gunpoint.
Deputies arrested Noel A. Matthews Jr., 18; Jahleel T. Hobbs, 17; and Kenny A. Sanford, 34, on July 16 — nearly a month after investigators allege they robbed Billy’s convenience store.

Storm uproots trees, but county sees little damage
A rush of wind sent trees down like dominos around a Laurel Mill Road home.
Luckily, there was no collateral damage.

Bragg retires from the Department of Aging
Roxanne Bragg earned a wage for her work in the Department of Aging, but her true pay came in embraces.

Town of Louisburg adopts updated transportation plan
It’s official, Louisburg now has a western bypass planned.
Actually, it’s just a line on a map, has no funding and even assistant administrator and planner Tony King cautioned that it may never be built, but the western bypass is official.
The Louisburg town council Monday night unanimously adopted the first update of its transportation plan since 1988.

Burdick honored with wildlife award
A man considered by many in federal government to be a maverick, rebel and nuisance could call himself something different this month — award winner.
The N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission honored George Burdick on July 7, presenting him with the Thomas L. Quay Wildlife Diversity Award — the organization’s most prestigious honor.

Proposal made to TDA for South American Festival
A Youngsville man figures a trip to South America can bring Franklin County together.
Humberto Vicetti appeared before the Franklin County Tourism Development Authority in May, looking for support for his proposal — a South American Festival.
The county event would showcase food, music, dance and other arts associated with Latin America.

Police investigate stolen items from D&J Automotive
Louisburg police arrested a Franklin County man they allege fled the scene of a wreck, leaving a two-year-old inside a sweltering car.
According to a police report, investigators and witnesses, Terry Lynn Martin, 44, of Old Halifax Road, was attempting to park a friend’s car on Market Street in Louisburg when the trouble began the afternoon of July 16.

Franklin County NAACP Youth Branch meeting
Members of the Franklin County NAACP Youth Branch met on June 13 in the fellowship hall of St. Paul Presbyterian Church in Louisburg. The primary purpose of the gathering was to celebrate the accomplishments made by the youth during the year.
The meeting was called to order by 2nd Vice President Jonathan Yarborough. Opening prayer was provided by John Yarborough.

The 56ers will host campers
The 56ers -- a group comprised of players and coaches from Youngsville’s legendary 1956 State Championship squad -- will host a kids basketball camp from July 26-29.

Canes to host free NHL game
RALEIGH -- The Carolina Hurricanes have announced that the team’s preseason game against the Atlanta Thrashers, scheduled for Oct. 1 at 1:30 p.m. at the RBC Center, will be free to the public.
The Oct. 1 preseason game against Atlanta will serve as the Hurricanes’ “European sendoff,” and is being played at 1:30 p.m., as the team will depart for St. Petersburg, Russia, following the game.
