YOUNGSVILLE — Commissioners fired a long-time town administrator and her son Monday night amid a probe into wrongdoing.
Three weeks ago, the Board of Commissioners suspended both Brenda Robbins and Joey Patterson, with and without pay respectively, as Police Chief Daren Kirts and auditors conducted an internal probe.

Franklin County’s parks and recreation department will not host a Fourth of July celebration this year.
The reason? Depends on who you ask.
Late last week, Franklin County Parks and Recreation Director Oliver Greene said the event was cancelled because they could not find an alternate site.

Schools adopt interim budget
The Franklin County Board of Education quickly plowed through a brief Monday night meeting, making a number of fiscal year-end transfers and adopting an interim budget.
The fund transfers are normal as each fiscal year winds down and a new one is about to begin on July 1.
“These are housekeeping items to best utilize various funds,” said Doug Moore, assistant superintendent for business and finance.

Dunn man charged with impersonating an officer
FRANKLINTON — A Dunn man alleged to have made a habit of impersonating a law enforcement officer will now get his chance at being on the other side of jurisprudence.
Franklinton police arrested Jason Apollo Jackson on June 26 after the 27-year-old was found to be a fraud.
According to a report by Sgt. Wade Bulloch, he was on patrol at 4:30 a.m. when he pulled into the parking lot of the Wilco-Hess gas station on U.S. 1 and came upon Jackson inside the store.

Embezzlement case awaits civil court outcome
The criminal case against a Louisburg woman charged with embezzlement was on the superior court calendar this week.
However, prosecutors don’t expect much in the way of resolution until the case is worked out civilly.
In October, an agent with the state Department of Insurance (DOI) arrested Judy Allen on charges of embezzlement by an insurance agent.

Unruly parents removed from little league baseball game
Authorities removed some unruly parents Monday night following a little league ball game.
A Youngsville officer and Franklin County sheriff’s deputy were called to Luddy Park at about 7 p.m. after parks and recreation staff attempted to have people removed from the game for heckling 6-8-year olds during the Dixie Youth Coach-Pitch District Tournament.

Police looking for armed robbery, assault suspect
Franklinton police are looking for a man suspected of an armed robbery and assault.
Daryle Jeffreys, 43, reported just before 2 a.m. on June 26 that he was sitting on his nephew’s porch on Fairlane Avenue when an acquaintance assaulted him with a box cutter.
According to the report by Sgt. W.B. Bulloch, Jeffreys sustained injuries to both eyes, as well as a laceration to the neck.

Alston retires from USAF
A retirement ceremony in honor of Master Sergeant Charlie T. “Ty” Alston was held on June 10 at Keesler Air Force Base in Mississippi. He began his military career in September 1989.
At the time of his retirement, he was the Law Office Superintendent for the Office of the Staff Judge Advocate, Headquarters Second Air Force, Keesler Air Force base, Miss., and primary assistant in overall administrative management of the Numbered Air Force legal office.

Skywarn spotter class scheduled

He was in the National Honor Society, served over 100 hours of community service during his four years of high school, and received the Presidential Outstanding Academic Achievement Award with a 4.0+ GPA. Noah had been a member of the choir since 4th grade.

Pace-Evans gets ROTC Scholarship
Rashaun Pace-Evans, a 2011 graduate of Louisburg High School, will be leaving July 19 for Army Basic Training at Ft. Jackson, S.C., under the Army ROTC program.
He received a $127,000 four-year college fund scholarship from the Army as a participant in the program. He also received a certificate of appreciation from Gov. Beverly Perdue.

NC State student to intern with Cooperative Extension Office
Just a semester away from earning his bachelor’s degree in environmental technology at North Carolina State University, Stephen Kelly is spending much of his summer in Franklin County.
As an energy intern with the Franklin County Cooperative Extension Service, he’s one of three interns who will be putting on programs to help local residents save energy and money — and perhaps help the environment at the same time.

56ers will host their BB camp
YOUNGSVILLE -- The annual 56ers Basketball Camp will be held July 18-21 at the Long Mill Elementary School Gymnasium.
The event is open to boys and girls in rising fifth through seventh grades. There is no charge to participate.

Tar Heel tourney shifted
LOUISBURG -- Youngsville has elected not to participate in one age group, and that has changed the brackets for the upcoming Tar Heel Softball 10-Under and 8-Under District Tournaments.
Youngsville will not play in the 8-Under portion, but will still field a squad in the 10-under group.
