King’s dream of equality lives on
Before Martin Luther King Jr. died, he expressed a “Dream” where his children would be judged by the content of their character, not the color of their skin.
From King’s death in 1969 to the world we live in today, there has been much progress and many strides made toward achieving King’s dream, said the Rev. Shane Benjamin, the speaker during Monday’s celebration of King’s life and legacy.

Dr. Martin Luther King had a dream for America
If you studied Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. this month, you learned that he was a smart man who was also a Reverend, a leader in his church.

Survey tells us nothing new about how Americans feel about Congress
News flash: A record 84 percent of Americans say they disapprove of the way the Congress is doing its job compared with just 13 percent who approve of how things are going, according to a Washington Post/ABC News public opinion poll published Monday.
Okay, okay, technically that may be news. It’s new information, based on a new survey and shows new results.

Issues in the workplace can be deadly, getting accurate obesity numbers can be dangerous
I was reading a story last week about pet peeves in the workplace that can set folks off.
It was meant to be humorous, for the most part.

A Carolinian’s growth agenda
RALEIGH – The president was personally liked. But his policies were failing. After initial signs of improvement, the economy again began to sputter. Job creation was virtually nonexistent. Programs meant to stimulate “aggregate demand” had in reality funded wasteful and politically connected projects. Millions of Americans feared for the future.

Is the government really the enemy?
I didn’t get far into Bill Clinton’s new book, “Back to Work,” before he stopped me in my tracks. The American public has largely bought into the theory that government is the problem, the reason for all our ills. If we “get government out of the way,” cut taxes, shrink government and reduce regulations, happy days will be here again.

Gridiron picks are finalized
Now we’re down to the nitty gritty in the National Football League Playoffs, and my winning record is in jeopardy.
Following a 2-2 week in the postseason, my mark is now a rather mediocre 5-3 -- thanks in part to the 49ers’ unlikely comeback against New Orleans.
