BUNN - Barbara Verkerk Nelson, 69, died Saturday morning, Oct. 6, 2007. A funeral mass was conducted Tuesday, Oct. 9, at Saint Catherine of Siena Catholic Church. Burial followed in Bunn Memorial Gardens.

ZEBULON - Lucy Pearl Perry George, 88, died Saturday, Oct. 6, 2007 at Hillside Nursing Center. Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, Oct. 9, in the chapel of Bright Funeral Home in Wake Forest, with Dr. Mike Jones officiating. Burial followed in the Beulah Christian Church cemetery.

CHARLES MOORE DRAUGHN, JR.
LOUISBURG - Charles Moore Draughn, Jr., age 79, a resident of 130 Jeffress Dr., Louisburg, died Saturday, October 6, 2007. He was born on August 30, 1928 in Richmond, Va., and lived in Wilson, N. C. and Raleigh, N. C. He graduated from Charles L. Coon High School in Wilson and Baylor University in Waco, Texas. He was retired from Nationwide Insurance Company Regional Headquarters in Raleigh. He served in the Korean War with the Air Force from 1949 until 1953.

Bragg-Cash leads coalition
Roxanne Bragg-Cash, director of the Franklin County Department of Aging, has been elected to serve as president of the North Carolina Coalition on Aging. The North Carolina Coalition on Aging is a statewide alliance of 41 organizations committed to improving the quality of life for older adults through legislative, other governmental and community action.

Etheridge briefs farmers
A large number of area farmers and their lending partners at East Carolina Farm Credit took time away from harvesting their crops recently to hear from 2nd District Congressman Bob Etheridge about the 2007 Farm Bill on Capitol Hill. The event took place at the Ed Bissette Farm in Nash County.
