ZEBULON — State and local authorities are trying to determine the cause of a fire that a killed woman Monday morning. According to Franklin County Sheriff Jerry Jones, fire and rescue authorities responded to 49 P.G. Pearce Road before 3 p.m. to find four adults and two children who escaped the blaze. A 55-year-old woman, though, did not escape the conflagration.
LOUISBURG — Police arrested a Franklinton man charged with the town’s first murder in more than two years. James Scott Perry II was arrested Saturday morning, hours after police allege he shot Doran Marquise Long following an altercation in the parking lot of the In and Out convenience store on S. Main Street at about 11:30 p.m. Friday. Long, 25, was pronounced dead at WakeMed.

MYRTLE BEACH, SC- Denver Howard Hill, 88, died Thursday, Aug. 21, 2014, at Wake Medical Center. A memorial service will be held at Lakewood Family Campground in Myrtle Beach on Saturday Aug. 30, at 2 p.m.
OXFORD - Marie Gupton Currin passed away on August 25, 2014, in the early morning hours at her home in Oak Hill Township in Northern Granville County surrounded by her family. Marie is survived by her four children and their families.
RALEIGH - Maylon Jones Frazier, 91, died Friday, Aug. 22, 2014 at his home. Funeral services were held Monday afternoon, Aug. 25, at Emmanuel Baptist Church, Raleigh. Burial followed in the Harris Chapel Baptist Church Cemetery, Youngsville.
