JOE M. HOLDEN
FRANKLINTON—Joe McArthur “Friss” Holden, 69, died Tuesday, Oct. 22, 2013 at William Dunlap Center in Raleigh. Funeral services were held  Saturday, Oct. 26, at Manasseh Chapel Baptist Church, Franklinton, with the Rev. Samuel T. Tunstall officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery.

He was born to Susanna Norwood Holden and the late Jonathan Holden in Franklin County. He graduated from B.F. Person Albion High School of Franklinton and furthered his education at King’s Business College in Raleigh. He joined Manasseh Chapel Baptist Church at an early age, where he served as a Sunday school teacher, BTU teacher and with the Deacon Ministry. He was a Vietnam veteran and served as an E-5 Specialist in the U.S. Army from 1967-1972. He was employed for many years with the North Carolina Wildlife Department, retiring in 2005.

Surviving: wife, Gwendolyn P. Holden of the home; sons, Alvin Bertrand Holden of Franklinton and Kelvin Bernard Holden of the home; his mother, Susanna Holden of Franklinton; brother, Larry T. Holden of Franklinton; three grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.
