LOUISBURG -- Authorities arrested Middlesex's police chief on charges that he assaulted his girlfriend, a Franklin County woman.
Authorities allege William D. Murray, 43, went to the woman's residence off Weldon Road the evening of March 14 and assaulted her.
Nash County sheriff's deputies arrested Murray on March 15 and turned him over to the Franklin County Sheriff's Office, which charged Murray with assault on a female and communicating threats, both misdemeanors.
Murray bonded out of jail today (Thursday) authorities said.
According to reports, it's not the first time that the chief law enforcement officer in Middlesex has been in trouble with the law.
In February 2016, Nash County deputies charged Murray and a Middlesex administrative assistant with cyberstalking.
It was not immediately clear the outcome of the Feb. 2016 matter.
Murray is slated to appear in Franklin County District Court on April 4 to face the assault charges.
