D. LEO EDWARDS

FRANKLINTON - Donald Leo Edwards, 87, of Franklinton died Thursday, March 30, 2017 at Franklin Manor in Youngsville. Born on March 9, 1930 to the late William Madison and Nora Tillotson Edwards, he was also preceded in death by his wife, Lois Wheeler Edwards; three sisters, and a brother.

After graduation from Franklinton High School in 1949, Leo served his country during the Korean War in the US Coast Guard.

After his service to his country, he served his community as the Chief of Police in Franklinton for 28 years and as a Franklin County Magistrate Judge for 20 years.

He was a member of Franklinton United Methodist Church, a member of American Legion Post 52 in Franklinton, a board member of the North Carolina Law Enforcement Officers Association and a member of the NC Magistrate Association.

Leo is survived by his children, Donna Edwards Webb and husband, Joel of Youngsville; Kevin Tyke Edwards and wife, Donna of Durham; Toby McCray Edwards and wife, Kim of Youngsville; and Robyn B. Edwards of High Point; and a sister, Lynda Edwards Hackney of Wilmington. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Peter Webb, Jessica Webb Pulley (Ashley), Nicholas Edwards, Elizabeth Edwards; and three great-grandchildren, Taylor, Madison, and Amanda Pulley.

A memorial service to celebrate Leo's life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 9, 2017 at Lancaster's Franklinton Chapel, 504 East Mason Street, Franklinton. The family will receive friends immediately following the service at Lancaster's Franklinton Chapel.
