CHARLES HAMILTON RICHARDS

YOUNGSVILLE--Charles Hamilton Richards, 82, of Youngsville, NC died Wednesday, November 15, 2017 at Duke Raleigh Hospital in Raleigh, NC. He was born in Franklin County to the late Charles Ernest Richards and Annie Rella Murray Richards.

Charlie was a graduate of Wake Forest University as a Phi Beta Kappa member. Following graduation, he began his career as a "newspaper man" and public relations director. He was a proud Rotary member for more than 20 years and served as president of five separate Rotary Clubs over that time. Charlie maintained a personal library where he kept many great treasures, including a collection of books on world history. He was a selfless man and enjoyed serving others whenever possible, especially if it gave him an opportunity to work outside cutting grass or cultivating fruit trees.

Charlie is survived by his wife of 58 years, Jo Alice Wilson Richards; son, Michael Charles; daughter, Melody Poli (Jon); grandchildren, Lauren, Heather, Charlie, Jon Paul, Sarah Jo, and Joseph. He is also survived by brother, Ernest Cordell Richards; nephew, David Richards; and many other loving family and friends.

Funeral Services will be held at the Gentry-Newell & Vaughan Funeral Home Chapel, 503 College St., Oxford, NC on Saturday, November 18, 2017, at 2:00 pm. The family will receive guests for visitation prior to the service from 1:00 - 2:00 pm. A private Cremation Ceremony will follow. Urn burial will occur in Woodlawn Cemetery, Orlando, FL, at a later time.
