CHARLOTTE - Perry Ricks Southall, 84, of Charlotte died at his residence on Sunday, September 28, 2008.

He was born October 8, 1923, in Louisburg, NC son of the late Louis and Pattie Wilder Southall.

Mr. Southall was a retired manager from Moffatt Bearing Company and was a former NC Highway Patrolman. He was a crew chief for Union 76 racing for over 40 years. Mr. Southall was an active member of First Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon and was a member of the Rod Alexander Sunday school class. A loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather, Mr. Southall will be missed by his family and friends. In addition to his parents Mr. Southall was preceded in death by three brothers and five sisters.

Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Mary Wheless Southall; son, Jeffrey Southall; daughter, Cindy Haston and husband, Don; grandsons, Brandon Haston and wife, Michelle and Brent and Jonathan Haston. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews.

Funeral service for Mr. Southall will be held 11:00 AM Tuesday, September 30, in the Dilworth Chapel of Hankins & Whittington Funeral Service with Reverend Dr. Mark E. Harris and Reverend Michael Cummings officiating. Interment will follow in Sharon Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Monday evening, September 29, from 7:00 to 8:30 PM. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Rod Alexander Sunday school class.
