STANLEY W. STOVALL JR.


MORVEN, N. C. - Stanley Williams Stovall, Jr., 63, died Wednesday, February 25, 2009 at his home near Wadesboro, N. C.

Funeral services were held at 2 PM on Saturday, February 28, 2009 at Morven Presbyterian Church with Mr. Ken Goins, CLP, officiating. Interment followed in Morven Cemetery.

Visitation was held on Friday, February 27, from 6 PM until 8 PM at Leavitt Funeral Home in Wadesboro, and at other times at the home in the Brown Creek community of Wadesboro.

Stanley was born June 27, 1945 in Raleigh. He was the son of the late Stanley Williams Stovall, Sr. and the late Lou Wimbish Stovall Hardison. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his stepfather, Robert M. Hardison.

Stanley and his family lived at 914 N. Main St. in Louisburg from 1945 until 1955. His father, Stanley Stovall, Sr., was a tobacconist, and his mother, Lou Stovall, taught English at Edward Best High School.

Stanley, Jr. attended Mrs. Frank Rose’s kindergarten and W. R. Mills School from grades 1-4 until the family moved to Lumberton, N. C. in June 1955, where Stanley, Sr. died in 1960. Mrs. Stovall later married Robert M. Hardison and moved to Morven, N. C., where she died in the late 1990s.

Stanley Stovall, Jr. had worked with both First National and Southern National Banks, which later became Branch Banking and Trust, where he retired. He was a veteran of the United States Navy, serving in the Vietnam War, had served on the Morven Town Council for several years, on the board of Morven Food Pantry, and was a member of Morven Presbyterian Church.

Surviving are his wife, Mary Brown Stovall of the home; his son, Robert Stovall and wife Jennifer of Wadesboro; his daughter, Chris S. Burr of Wadesboro; and his grandchildren, Katelyn and Brooke Stovall and Taylor, Morgan and Jackson Burr, all of Wadesboro.
