GEORGE M. WEST
December 6, 1929 – September 12, 2009


LOUISBURG - George Maurice West, 79, of Louisburg, died peacefully on Saturday, September 12, 2009.

Funeral services were held on Monday, September 14, at 11 a.m., at Louisburg Baptist Church, where he served faithfully in many capacities, such as deacon, advisory board chairman, Sunday school teacher, and choir member. Presiding over the services was Dr. Reggie Rushing, pastor of Louisburg Baptist Church. Burial  followed at Oakwood Cemetery.

The family received friends at Strickland Funeral Home in Louisburg on Sunday, September 13, from 3 to 4:30 p.m.

After graduating from Mars Hill College and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, George served in the U.S. Army for two years. A real estate appraiser, he was founder and president of Triangle Realty Corporation, the first company of its kind in Louisburg. George was a Mason and Past Grand Patron of The Order of the Eastern Star. He traveled across North Carolina for both business and pleasure.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Kathryn Joyner West; his daughters, Kim West Davis of Red Oak and Kathy West  Jones of Louisburg; his son, George M. (Buddy) West,  Jr. of Durham; his sons-in-law, Kenny Davis and  Henry Jones; his brother, Lloyd A. West and wife Daphine of Louisburg; his brother-in-law, W. Clifford Joyner and wife Shirley of Oak Island; his sister-in-law, Janice J. Fleming and husband Bill of Enfield; his 5 grandchildren, Kevin and Kyle Davis and Taylor, Matthew, and Molly Jones; his 6 great-grandchildren, Noah, Ethan, Mason, Jacob, Brianna, and Joseph; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, George Brantley and Lillie Belle Gupton West; his sisters, Helen West Dickens and Priscilla West Hight; and his brother, Hal T. West.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Wanda Walters Scholarship Fund or the Off-street Parking Fund, Louisburg Baptist Church, P.O. Box 730, Louisburg, NC 27549.

The family extends a special thanks to all our church family, friends, and relatives for their steadfast support and love over the years.
