ZEBULON - Mettie Denton Creech, 72, died Saturday afternoon, Oct. 10, 2009 at UNC Hospital. Funeral service was conducted Tuesday, Oct. 13, at Union Chapel Baptist Church. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

She was born in Durham County, daughter of the late Etta Pearl Ferrell and Eli Winston Denton. She retired from Westinghouse / ABB with 45 years of service.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Lula Massey Perry, and brothers, Frank and James Denton.

Surviving: husband, Franklin D. Creech; sons, Durward Creech (Kathy) of Franklinton, Derek Creech of the home; sisters, Dorothy Cone of Middlesex, Mae Winstead of Elm City, JoAnne Mitchell of Middlesex and Carolyn Perry of Zebulon; brothers, Junior “J.R.” Denton and Danny Denton of Middlesex; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to the Leukemia Foundation or to Union Chapel Baptist Church.
