JAMES E. HOLDEN


CARY - James Edwin Holden died Sunday, Nov. 15, 2009. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. today (Saturday, Nov. 28) at Bryan-Lee Funeral Home, 831 Wake Forest Road, Raleigh. Entombment will follow at Brier Creek Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

Born in Louisburg in 1922, his childhood was spent in Tuffin, Ohio, after his father’s untimely death in 1930. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. He retired from the U.S. Postal Service in 1974.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Joe Thomas Holden and Minnie Victoria Hardister Holden; nine brothers and sisters, Ora Leigh, Hubert Louis, John Henry, Rosemond Estelle, Aletha, Ruby Grey, Joe Ben, Julia Marie, and Ralph Newell of the Holden clan; and a daughter, Kathryn Holden Pattishall.

Surviving: his wife, Catherine “Kay” Holden; daughter, Coleen V. Holden of Raleigh; one granddaughter; four nieces and two nephews.
