STEVEN FLOYD “STEVE” HIGHT


WINTERVILLE - Steven Floyd “Steve” Hight, 60, passed away at his home, Friday, December 4, 2009.

A memorial service was held Monday at 2 p.m. at Covenant United Methodist Church.

Steve, a native of Franklin County, NC, was born on April 26, 1949 to Ann H. and Floyd Hight, who preceded him in death.

Steve, a loving husband, father, grandfather and brother, was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing with friends. He is remembered for his big heart and love of people, as well as a love for music and baking. Banana cake was his specialty.

Steve attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill before launching a career in the paper and packaging industry. He founded Hight Paper & Packaging, Inc., in 1994. He was a long-time member of Covenant United Methodist Church.  

He is survived by the mother of his children and wife of 32 years, Debby S. Hight of Greenville; daughter, Haven Hight Smith and husband, Lee, of Winterville; son, Jordan Hight and wife, Neely, of Atlanta, GA; grandchildren, Landon and Lilly Smith, and Molly Hight; sister, Betty Lynn Wester and husband, Tommy, of Louisburg; niece and nephew, Katy and Tyler Wester; and loyal friend, Bill Rapp of Winterville.

Steve died of natural causes associated with COPD complicated by pneumonia.

The family received  friends at Wilkerson Funeral Home Sunday from 4 to 6 p.m. and other times at the home of Haven and Lee Smith.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Cape Lookout Mobile Sportfisherman, Inc., for the preservation and beautification of Portsmouth Island (c/o Art Noyes, PO Box 222, Atlantic, NC, 28511-0222).
