ELBERT R. LEWIS


ZEBULON - Elbert Reginald Lewis, 83, an Army veteran of WW II, died Tuesday, Dec. 8, 2009.  Funeral service was Thursday, Dec. 10, at Pilot Baptist Church.  Burial followed in Gethsemane Memorial Gardens.

He served a tour of duty in Japan, was a Franklin County deputy sheriff for a brief time and was a retired tobacco farmer.  In his later years, he was a contractor.

Surviving:  wife, Ann Marie Lewis of the home; daughters, Kim Zdebiak (Tom) of Rocky Mount and Sandy Strickland (Ronnie) of Raleigh; sons, Rick Lewis (Sunny) of Raleigh, Glenn Lewis (Mary Anne) of Pilot and Phil Lewis (Heather) of Raleigh; sister, Merle Wideman of Maylenne, Ala.; brothers, Balbus Lewis of Pilot and Keyvin Lewis of Middlesex; 12 grandchildren; and one  great-granddaughter.
