ZEBULON - John Edwards, 82, died Monday, Feb. 8, 2010. Arrangements pending by Bryan-Lee Funeral Home and Highland United Methodist Church.

He was born in Snow Hill and was a graduate of Porter Military Academy in Charleston, S.C., and served in the U.S. Naval Service following his graduation in 1945.He later attended N.C. State College, graduating with a bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering.

In 1957, he established John A. Edwards Consulting Engineering Firm, and following his retirement in 1989, he stayed involved with the company until his death.

Surviving: wife, Linda Ott McMurry; a son, Johnny Edwards; daughter, Susan Edwards Spurlin (Bill); stepdaughter, Parie Hines (Agen Schmitz); and one step-grandson.
