DURHAM - Maxine Downey Beadle, 86, died Wednesday, Aug. 30, 2006. A graveside service will be conducted at 10 a.m. today (Saturday, Sept. 2) at Woodlawn Cemetery.

She was born in Lamar, S. C. to Lula Bass Downey and Marshall L. “Cugar” Downey. Mrs. Beadle was employed by Liggett and Myers Tobacco for 12 years, and worked with her husband, David Riddle, in their grocery store until his death.

Surviving: her husband, Randall D. Beadle; sons, Daniel L. Riddle of Cary and D. Wayne Riddle of Tyler, Tex.; brothers, M. Desmond Downey and Jack R. Downey of Durham; sisters, Freda Holloway of Bladenboro and Betty O’Neal of Youngsville; four grandchildren; and two great grandchildren.

She was predeceased by husbands David D. “Brother” Riddle Jr. and Larry Paul Hayes.
