RALEIGH – Samuel Hartwell “Sammy” Ransdell, Jr., 54, of Raleigh, died Sunday night.

Sammy was preceded in death by his mother, Marie D. Ransdell, and his sister, Joyce R. Young and her husband, Herbert Young.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Thursday in the chapel of Strickland Funeral Home, with the Rev. George Rowe officiating. Burial will follow in the Ransdell Family Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

Sammy is survived by his father, S.H. “Hartford” Ransdell, Sr.; sister, Carolyn Ransdell; nephew, Herbert Young, Jr., all of Louisburg; girlfriend, Becky Carter of Raleigh.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 8300 Health Park Suite 10, Raleigh, NC 27615.

Arrangements are by Strickland Funeral Home, Louisburg.
