RALEIGH - Mrs. Jean Newton Reilly, 81, died Thursday, Aug. 31, 2006. A private graveside service was held Saturday, Sept. 2, at Montlawn Memorial Park.

A native of Alabama, Mrs. Reilly was the daughter of the late William “Doc” Newton, former head football coach at NC State University. She was the great granddaughter of John Haymes Mills, who founded the Oxford Orphanage and the Baptist Children’s Home in Thomasville.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Bart M. Reilly, and her son, Michael T. Williams Reilly.

Surviving: son, Richard Newton Yeats of Los Angeles, Calif.; daughters, Ann Reilly Utter of Raleigh, Mary Reilly and Megan Reilly Ives, both of Franklinton; and brother, James Arrington Newton of Florida.
