W. ASTOR BOWDEN


BURLINGTON - W. Astor Bowden, 75, formerly of Louisburg, and most recently residing in Burlington, died Thursday, May 6, 2010, at Alamance Regional Medical Center.

Services will be held at 3 p.m.  Sunday, May 9, at Brick Reformed United Church of Christ, with the Rev. Kristin Gerner Vaughn officiating. A graveside service will be held 2 p.m. Monday at Oakwood Cemetery in Louisburg, with the Rev. Reggie Rushing officiating.

A native of Franklin County, he was the husband of Sue G. Bowden, who survives of the home, and the late Mattie Moon Bowden, and son of the late John Onnie Bowden and Mabel Mitchell Bowden. He was a retired lieutenant with the Capital Police, a member of Brick Reformed United Church of Christ, former member of the NC National Guard and the Lions Club.

He was also a former Franklin County sheriff’s deputy and former employee of The Franklin Times.

Surviving, other than his wife: a sister, Dorothy Tippett of Wake Forest; two brothers, Wallace Bowden (Danny) of Live Oak, Fla., and Johnny Bowden (Evelyn) of Wilson.

The family will receive friends at the Rich & Thompson Mortuary in Burlington from 6-8 p.m. Saturday evening, at the Fellowship Hall of Louisburg Baptist Church after the graveside service, and other times at the residence.
