RALEIGH - Rudene Batten Watson Stancil, 82, formerly of Forestville Road, died Tuesday, Sept. 7, at Mayview Convalescent Center. Funeral service was Thursday, Sept. 9, at Bethany Baptist Church, Wendell, with the Rev. Phil Brantley and the Rev. Joe Zimmerman officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

She was born in Johnston County to the late Reuben Perry Batten and Mary Leacy Edwards Batten. She retired from the Department of Motor Vehicles after 20 years of service.

Surviving: sons, Johnny Philip Watson (Frances) of Raleigh, ClaiburgnBrooks “Butch” Watson (Barbara) of Raleigh; daughter, Sandra Shearin (Aubrey) of Youngsville; brother, Percy Batten of Wendell; and six grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, Curtis Claiburn Watson and Thurman B. Stancil; one grandson; brothers, Leroy Dalton “Jack” Batten, Andrew “Peepsie” Batten, Robert Daniel “Chip” Batten; and a sister, Lona Mae B. Harris.
