BARBARA M. JOHNSON


DURHAM - Barbara Mance Johnson died Saturday, Nov. 13, 2010 at the Carolina House of Durham. A celebration of her life will be held Dec. 4 at 11 a.m. in the American Cremation Services Chapel, 1204 Person St., Durham.

She was the eldest child of the late William Wilson Mance Sr. and Ernestine English Mance of Darlington, SC. She devoted most of her working life employed as a histopathological technician at the National Institutes of Health in Washington, D.C. in cancer research.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Kenneth Mance Sr.

Surviving: son, Jeffery Johnson of Phoenix, Ariz.; siblings, William Mance Jr. (Diane) of Asheville, Alphonso Mance (Kathleen) of Nashville, Tenn., Janette Warsaw (Frederick) of Durham, George Mance of Ft. Washington, Md., Frank Mance (Donna) of Youngsville, and Hazeline Jackson (Lawrence) of Houston, Tex.; and five grandchildren.
