ZEBULON - Elgia T. Sherrod, 78, died Tuesday, Oct. 10, 2006. Funeral services were conducted Thursday, Oct. 12, at Union Chapel Baptist Church. Burial was in the Bailey Town Cemetery.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Beulah M. Hodges of Rocky Mount.

Surviving: wife, Thelma T. Sherrod; daughter, Margie S. Collie (John) of Spring Hope; son, Thomas Preston Sherrod (Virginia) of Zebulon; stepchildren, Deloris Bridgers, Deborah Creech, James, Jerry, Dewey and David Johnson; sisters, Mary Wilks and Mable S. Purve, both of Rocky Mount; brothers, Curtis Sherrod, Earl Sherrod, Jeerdis Sherrod, all of Rocky Mount, Oscar L. Sherrod of Richmond, Va., Hassell Sherrod and Wesley Sherrod, both of Nashville; four grandchildren; and eight great grandchildren.
