CONOVER - Charles “Charlie” Lindbergh Bunn, age 82, of Conover passed away unexpectedly on Monday, June 27, 2011 at his residence.

Born February 28, 1929 in Franklin County, he was the son of  the late Percy Ruffin Bunn and Blonnie Dale Wheless. Charlie retired from Hanes Industries after a lifelong career.  He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Conover where he served with the United Methodist Men and the United Methodist Men Building Team.  In addition to faithful daily volunteer work at Eastern Catawba County Christian Ministry, he also held multiple positions with ECCCM, including the Board of Directors, Capital Campaign Committee member, Co-chair of Church Division Campaign, and Chair of the ECCCM New Building Committee.  He was a long-time member and past president of the Conover Lions Club.  He was a former volunteer for Meals on Wheels and the Greater Hickory Classic at Rock Barn.  He was the recipient of the United Way “Giving From the Heart” Award, the Habitat for Humanity “Golden Hammer” Award in 2000, and was presented the North Carolina Outstanding Volunteer Service Award by Governor Easley in 2005.  He was known as “a friend to all, stranger to none.”

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a sister, Mildred Tesh; three brothers, Russell Bunn, Ishmael Bunn, and Rev. J. C. Bunn.

 He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Virginia “Ginny” A. Suarez Bunn of the home; daughters, Nancy Gibson and husband, Richard, of Greensboro, NC, Diane Urtel and husband, Paul, of Conover, NC; grandchildren, Jessica Potts, Julia Gibson, Charles Urtel, and Melanie Urtel; sister, Imogene Sharpton of Brentwood, TN; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

 A  Memorial Service will be held at 2:30 PM on Sunday, July 3, 2011 at First United Methodist Church in Conover, NC with Rev. Mickey Moree and Rev. Tony Bunton officiating.

The family will receive friends following the service in the church fellowship hall.

A graveside service will be held at a later date a Duke Memorial Baptist Church in Spring Hope, NC.
