FRANKLINTON - Thomas “Milton” Ragan, Sr., 83, entered into Heavenly rest on Saturday, September 3, 2011.  Born in Franklin County, Milton was the middle child of Samuel E. and Mary C. Ragan. He was predeceased by his parents; his brother at birth; and his sister Ann in February 2010.  A 1946 graduate of Franklinton High School, he proudly served the United States Navy aboard the USS Helena from 1948 – 1952, with active duty in Okinawa and Honolulu. 

With his wife Margaret, he owned and operated the “M&M” grocery in Franklinton from 1960 – 1975.  Milton was a member of the American Legion and a Charter member of the Franklinton Rescue Association for many years.  He retried from the US Postal Service in 1990 after 30 years of committed service to his community.  Milton was a faithful member of Union View Baptist Church for more than fifty years, serving in numerous positions including Chairman of Deacons, Sunday School Superintendent, Sunday School Teacher, but most importantly, a Disciple of Christ. In 2006, Milton and Margaret joined Oak Level Christian Church in Youngsville, where he continued to worship and serve faithfully.  

He is survived by his wife Margaret of 58 years; his daughter Olivia and son Tommy; grandson, Jason and wife Joyce; great-grandson Ian – a bright ray of sunshine; brother-in-law, Eddie Dean; nieces Elizabeth Ingram and Cathy Saunders; several cousins and many wonderful friends.  

A celebration of his life will be held Thursday, September 8, at 2 PM at the Oak Level Christian Church in Youngsville.  Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Franklinton, NC.

The family would like to give a heartfelt thank you to their loving church family and close friends for the support during this time. As well, they send a warm thank you to the staff of the Rex Cancer Center – Dr. Robert Wheebie and Dr. Roger Anderson and associated staff. 

Tommy and Olivia give a special thank you to their mother for the expert and unending care she gave their dad all of his life, but specifically the last sixteen months.
