ZEBULON - Sadie Hocutt Braswell, 96, died Wednesday, Sept. 14, 2011 at WakeMed in Raleigh. Funeral services were  held Friday, Sept. 16, at Zebulon Baptist Church. Burial was in the Zebulon Cemetery.

A native of Johnston County, she moved to Zebulon when she married in 1940 and lived there for the remainder of her life. She was the oldest member of Zebulon Baptist Church where she served in various capacities and attended for many years.She taught 25 years at Wakelon, Princeton and Corinth-Holder schools.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Wilson Bunn Braswell; parents, Costa W. Hocutt and Annie Narron Hocutt of Johnston County; and brothers, Vermon Hocutt and Earlie Hocutt.

Surviving: daughters, Phyllis Braswell Corter (Ronald) of Zebulon and Patricia Braswell Miller (Brant) of Nashville, Tenn.; sister, Gertie H. Hall; brothers, Percy Hocutt (Costa Jr.); several nieces, nephews, their spouses, children and grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Zebulon Baptist Church Believe Campaign, P. O. Box 366, Zebulon, NC 27597 or to your local Society of Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA).
