CHARLES T. EAVES, SR.


HENDERSON- Charles Toleston Eaves, Sr., 88, a resident of 21 Joe Ayscue Road, died Thursday, November 3, 2011, at Maria Parham Medical Center.  Born on February 23, 1923, in Franklin County, he was the son of the late Charlie O’Briant Eaves and Addie Lou Ayscue Eaves, and the widower of Garnetta Swinson Eaves.

Mr. Eaves was a member of Liberty Christian Church where he formerly served as a deacon. He was a farmer and owner and operator of E & S Farm Store, Eaves-Parks Insurance Agency, Franklin Insurance Agency, Eaves Equipment Company and an H&R Block Franchise.  He was a former Federal Surplus Property Officer with the N.C. Department of Administration, a candidate for Franklin County Commissioner, and he was a past Chairman of the Franklin County Republican Party.  Mr. Eaves was the recipient of the Order of the Long Leaf Pine awarded by Governor James E. Holshouser, Jr. He graduated from Epsom High School and attended Wake Forest College. He was a veteran of the United States Army, serving during World War II in the Pacific Theatre in the 11th Airborne Division, 511th Parachute Infantry Regiment, Company H.  Following his service in the United States Army, he was a member of the North Carolina National Guard Company C 139th Infantry Battalion 30th Division and he retired with the rank of Major.  Mr. Eaves was a member of American Legion Post 60 for over sixty years.  
Funeral services with full military honors will be held Saturday at 2:00PM at Liberty Christian Church by Rev. Bryan Breland and Rev. Tammy Ayscue.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.  


He is survived by his daughter, Michele Burgess and husband, Talmadge of Henderson; two sons, Charles Toleston Eaves, Jr. and wife, Judy Finch Eaves of Henderson, and Michael Davis Eaves and wife, Susan Rankin Eaves of Fuquay-Varina; a sister, Mary Nell Eaves Green of Mebane; five grandchildren, Edward Alan O’Neal of Clinton, Wendy Michelle Eaves of Henderson, Gina Elizabeth Eaves of Sanford, Audrey Denise Eaves Cobb and husband, Justin of Greenville, and Justin Carter Burgess of Wilmington; a great-granddaughter, Katelyn Susannah O’Neal of Clinton, and several nieces and nephews.  In addition to his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Christine E. Oakley and Emily E. Moss; and two brothers Brookston O’Briant Eaves and Russell Frank Eaves.        

The family will receive friends at the home and immediately following the service in the fellowship hall of the church.

Serving as active pallbearers will be members of the Military Honor Guard from Fort Bragg.

Serving as honorary pallbearers will be former members of the North Carolina National Guard Company C 139th Infantry Battalion 30th Division.
