CASTALIA - Howard Louis Thorne, 88, died Tuesday, Nov.15, 2011 at his home. A memorial service was held Thursday, Nov. 17, at White Level Baptist Church, with the Rev. Henry Stamper officiating. 

He was preceded in death by his wife, Corine Leonard Thorne; daughter, Barbara Smith; and his son, Gregg Thorne.   

Surviving: daughter, Angela McIntyre (Keith) of Castalia; son, Barry Thorne (Charlene Gooch) of Castalia; sister, Alyce Hawkins (Vanie) of Plant City, Fla.; eight grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Amedysis Hospice/Christen Foundation, 3320 US Hwy 1, Franklinton, NC  27525.

The flag in front of the funeral home flew at half-staff in honor of Mr. Thorne’s service to our country where he served in the US Army.
