CARL W. RICE


CASTALIA - Carl Wilson Rice, 93, left his earthly life Tuesday, January 3, 2012.  He resided in Justice, NC all of his life, until recent months where he resided at Franklin Oaks of Louisburg. He was born July 29, 1918 in Franklin County. 

Funeral services will be conducted at the Duke Memorial Baptist Church in Justice on Thursday, January 05, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. with the Rev. Jake Dorak officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military honors.  
Visitation will be at Strickland Funeral Home in Louisburg on Wednesday, January 04, 2012 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. and all other times at the home of Philip Rice.

He was the son of the late John Madison Rice and Emma Lou Vick Rice. He was predeceased by his wife, Mattie Mildred Boone Rice.

He is survived by two sons, Stuart Rice of Raleigh and Philip Rice and wife, Phyllis of Justice; grandchildren, Tracey Schriver and husband, Michael Schriver of Youngsville, Greg Rice and wife, Cindy of Knightdale, and Carley Green and husband Jeff of Wake Forest; great-grandchildren, Scott and Elizabeth Schriver, Benjamin, Daniel, and Rebecca Marie Green; many special nieces and nephews.

He was a member of Duke Memorial Baptist Church.  He was a very devoted father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He served as a volunteer fireman for the Justice Fire Department for many years. He was a veteran of World War II, and served in F Company 137 Infantry 35th in the European Theatre of Operations. For his ninetieth birthday, he was honored at the World War II National Monument in Washington, D.C.  He was a retired farmer and an avid bird hunter and fisherman and loved the outdoors.

Flowers are accepted and appreciated or memorials may be made to the Duke Memorial Baptist Church Building Fund at 3976 NC 581 Hwy. N., Spring Hope, NC 27882 or the Justice Fire Department in his memory.
