LUCY K. BUSSEY


FRANKLINTON - Lucy Mae Kearney Bussey, 88, died Thursday, Dec. 29, 2011 at her home. Funeral services were held Thursday, Jan. 5, at First United Church of Christ, Franklinton, where she was a member, with the Rev. Priscilla Massenburg officiating and Dr. Donald D. Davis Sr., eulogist. Interment followed in Evergreen Cemetery.

She was born to the late Carver and Annettha Guess Kearney. She graduated from Albion Academy, Franklinton, and furthered her education at North Carolina Central University, Durham.   She began her teaching career in Nash County, and later taught at B. F. Person-Albion in Franklinton.  She also taught seventh and eighth grade mathematics and science for Franklinton City Schools and later Franklin County Schools. She retired in 1997 after 36 years of service.

She and her husband, the late General James Bussey, founded Bussey’s Cafe on Main Street in Franklinton.

Surviving: daughter, Belinda Bussey Hines of the home; sister, Lorraine K. Albritton (Fred) of New York; brother, Edward M. Kearney (Estelle) of Washington, D.C.; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
