LOUISBURG - Max Adams Powell, 73, died Sunday, Jan. 22, 2012. A memorial service will be held at First Baptist Church in Swansboro on Saturday, Jan. 28, at 2 p.m.

He attended New Bern High School, and after school, joined the North Carolina National Guard. He became a news reporter and later a news director for more than 20 years in New Bern and Raleigh. He also worked for the NC Dept. of Transportation and the NC Dept. of Insurance.

Surviving: wife, Judy M. Powell of Louisburg; son, Jefferey A. Powell of Central, S. C.; daughter, Kimberly P. Thomas of Youngsville; and five grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents, Golda A. Powell and William C. Powell.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Swansboro Fire Department in honor of the deceased.
