RALEIGH - Eugene “Gene” Raymond Tomlinson, 65, died Monday, Feb. 20, 2012 at Wake Med. Funeral service was held Thursday, Feb. 23, at New Hope Baptist Church, Raleigh, with Dr. Richard Childress officiating. Burial was at Stone Heritage family cemetery, Middlesex.

He was born in Raleigh to the late Robert Bernard Tomlinson Jr. and Ruby Stone Tomlinson. He served two tours of duty in Vietnam with the U.S. Army. He was former Director of Recreation in Durham and was a retired Superintendent of Parks with Raleigh Parks and Recreation.

Surviving: wife, Kaye Williams Tomlinson; sons, Joshua Tomlinson (Lynda) of Orlando, Fla., Jeremy Tomlinson of Raleigh; brother, Robert E. “Bobby” Tomlinson (Sharon) of Youngsville; sister, Sandra T. Holly (Gerald) of Emerald Isle; and two grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Terri T. Ranson.
