LOUISBURG – Milton Elmo Smith, 82, of Louisburg, passed away Saturday morning. 

Milton was a son of the late Milton Noel and Mary Alice Goodson Smith. He was preceded in death by his wife, Edna Roberson Smith, and several sisters and brothers.

He was a dedicated member of Louisburg Baptist Church and Louisburg Fire Department where he served as past Assistant Chief and chaplain. He retired from Lance in 1984 after thirty years of employment and he was the co-founder of Smith Insulation. Milton was known throughout Louisburg and Franklin County for calling people on their birthday and singing Happy Birthday to them.

A funeral service was held 11 a.m. Tuesday at Louisburg Baptist Church, with Dr. Reggie Rushing officiating. Entombment followed at Lancaster Memorial Park Mausoleum.

Milton is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Nancy S. and Doug Gilbert of Louisburg; sons and daughters-in-law, Noel and Charlotte of Chesapeake, VA; Tom G. and Lisa of Roanoke, VA; Timmy and Pam of Louisburg; sister, Elizabeth S. Roberts of Charlotte; grandchildren, Amanda Gilbert; Wayne Gilbert; Duane Smith and wife, Holley; Adam Smith; Brandi S. Davis and husband, John; Tommy Smith and wife, Jamie; Nicole S. Hinson and husband, Andy; Patrick Smith; great-grandchildren, Madison, Holden, John Milton “Jack,” Zachary, Alisha, Reed and Lilly.

In lieu of flowers, the family encourages contributions be made to Louisburg Baptist Church, Good Neighbors Fund, P.O. Box 730, Louisburg, NC 27549 or the Louisburg Fire Department, 102 Wade Ave., Louisburg, NC 27549.
