JAMES E. MAY (Dec. 7, 1936 – Dec. 16, 2006)


LOUISBURG – James Elton May, 70, of 323 Egypt Church Rd., went home to be with his Lord Saturday, December 16th, at his home.

James was a son of the late Willie Elias and Eleanor Shearin May and was preceded in death by his sister, Doris M. Dickerson, and brother-in-law, Paul Romero. James retired as Director of Transportation for the Franklin County School System in 1994 with 37 years of service. He was a lifelong faithful member of Hill King United Methodist Church.

Funeral service was officiated by the Rev. Richard Mathews, Tuesday 11 a.m. in the chapel of Strickland Funeral Home. Burial followed at Hill King United Methodist Church Cemetery.

James is survived by his wife of 50 years, Peggy Spencer May; daughter, Tamara May Fuller and husband Keith of Fairfax, VA; sons, Jimmy May and wife Carla of Wake Forest; Todd May and wife Tracey of Youngsville; sisters, Lucille M. Romero of Sanford, Alma M. Dickerson and husband Fred of Raleigh, Shirley M. Southall and husband Wilbur of Louisburg; brothers, Elmo May and wife Dovie, Doug May and wife Janet, all of Louisburg, Vernon May and wife Eula of Wake Forest; sister-in-law, Kay Hunt and husband J.B. of Louisburg; brothers-in-law, Harold Spencer and wife Shelby of Wilmington, Harold Dickerson of Louisburg; grandchildren, Erin, Emily, Amanda, Eric Todd, Adam, Rebecca and Kaiti.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the James E. May Scholarship Fund of Hill King United Methodist Church, c/o Ricky May, 1897 NC 39 Hwy. S., Louisburg, NC 27549.

The family received friends 7 – 8:30 p.m. Monday at Strickland Funeral Home, 103 W. Franklin St. Louisburg, and other times at the home.
