IDA MAE B. ADAMS


GARNER - Ida Mae Bass Adams, 90, died Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2013 at her childhood home in Garner. Funeral services were held Monday, Feb. 4, at Wake Baptist Grove Church in Garner, with the Rev. Dr. Joseph Lovelace officiating. Interment followed at the Hilliard family cemetery in Garner.

She was born in Wake County to the late Roy Harry “Pa” Bass and Annie Hilliard “Ma” Bass in Wake County. Following her graduation from Garner Colored High School, she attended North Carolina College for Negroes (North Carolina Central University) of Durham, where she received a Bachelor of Science degree in Commerce. She worked in Durham for several years and later launched her career in education by working at the District of Columbia Teachers College (UDC-Washington Technical College) for more than two decades. Upon retirement, she returned to Garner to care for her elderly mother. She received many awards and honors for her community work on behalf of others.

Surviving: daughter, Karen E. Clark of the home; sister, Margaret Bass Coleman of Garner;  and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

 In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by a sister, Queen E. Winters of Baltimore, Md.
