SAMUEL A. CLAX SR.


FRANKLINTON - Samuel Avery Clax Sr., 90, died Thursday, Feb. 8, 2007. Funeral services were conducted Monday, Feb. 12, at First Baptist Church, Franklinton, with the Rev. Willie R. Nixon III officiating. Interment followed in Evergreen Cemetery, Franklinton.

He was born in Franklin County to the late Abraham and Gertrude Clax. He considered himself a “jack of all trades.” He retired from the City of Raleigh.

Surviving: his wife, Deloris Clax; sons, Samuel Clax Jr. (Pauline) of Franklinton, Wallace Clax (Roberta) of Raleigh, Curtis Lyons (Regina), and George Lyons, all of Franklinton, and Tony Clax of the home; daughters, Bettie Mangum of Kingston, Pa., Barbara Wallace (Curtis) of Lanham, Md., Joy Louise Clax of Franklinton, and Wanda D. Clax of Raleigh; 11 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren.
