FRANKLINTON - George Lacy Russell Sr., 73, died Thursday, March 8, 2007 in Franklin Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday, March 11, in the Franklin Funeral Service chapel in Franklinton, with the Rev. Milton Abbott and the Rev. Dr. Ron Wallace officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery.

Born in Halifax, Va., he was the son of Charlie Russell and Lottie Newcomb Russell. He was a retired truck driver, working for Mangum Trucking Company, and prior to that he was employed at Sterling Mill in Franklinton for many years. Mr. Russell was preceded in death by his wife, Doris Duke Russell.

Surviving: a son, George L. (Betty) Russell Jr. of Zebulon; one daughter, Dianne R. (Wayne) Thompson of Franklinton; sisters, Nannie Vaughan of LaCross, Va., Gladys Thorp of Boyd-ton, Va., Mildred Guill of Wileysburg, Va., and Doris Deal of South Boston, Va.; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 tonight (Saturday, March 10) at the funeral home.
