KATHRYN F. JOYNER (Oct. 26, 1922 – April 2, 2007)

LOUISBURG - Mary Kathryn Foster Joyner went to be with our Lord on Monday, April 2, 2007, at the age of 84.

A life-long resident of Franklin County, Kathryn was the daughter of Ethel Collins Foster and Peter Stapleton Foster of the Ingleside community. She was preceded in death by her husband, Maurice Clifton Joyner.

Following a brief but enjoyable career as a singer with the Jimmy Byerly Orchestra during the late 1930’s, Kathryn attended Louisburg College and spent much of her life in public service, working for both the Franklin County Board of Education and the Department of Social Services. Along with her husband, she was active for years at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Louisburg.

After her retirement Kathryn discovered a long-hidden talent for painting, and immensely enjoyed art with her many friends during her later years.

She is survived by her only son and daughter in-law, Maurice Clifton (Pete) Jr. and Maggui B. Joyner of Tucker, Georgia; a nephew-like-a-son, William Lee (Bill) Harris of the Ingleside community; two grandsons, Christopher Stapleton Joyner of Raleigh and David Andrew Joyner of Tucker, Georgia; a great-nephew and a great-niece.

The memorial service will be held at 2 pm on Friday, April 6, at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Louisburg. Burial beside her husband will follow at Trinity Methodist Church cemetery in the Ingleside community.

Family will receive visitors immediately following the service.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the St. Paul’s Episcopal Church Repair Fund, 305 N. Church St., Louisburg, NC 27549.

Arrangements by Strickland Funeral Home, Louisburg.
