ROCKY MOUNT - Otho Bunn Smith, 89, died Tuesday, May 2, 2006. A gathering to celebrate his life was held Friday, May 5, at Johnson Funerals and Cremations in Rocky Mount, with Dr. Bill Wakefield of Rock Creek Baptist officiating. Burial followed at Rocky Mount Memorial Park.

He was born in Nash County, the son of the late William Albert Smith and Susan Eason Smith. He was a veteran of the US Army, serving in World War II. His wife, Margaret Strickland Smith, preceded him in death.

Surviving: daughters, Susan Ann Pierce of Rocky Mount, Barbara Powell (Julian) of Nashville; sons, Otho Gray Smith (Connie) of Centerville, Jack Douglas Smith (Marilyn) of Nashville, Marvin Lee Smith (Jackie) of Whitakers; brothers, Pete Smith of Tarboro, Albert Smith of Virginia, Hardy Smith of Texas, J. T. Smith of Tarboro; sisters, Rachel Crowdus of Florida and Earline Dew of Roanoke Rapids. six grandchildren; and four great grandchildren.
