FRED L. FEARING


ELIZABETH CITY - Fred L. Fearing, 93, died in Albemarle Hospital on Friday, Oct. 19, 2007. Funeral services were conducted Sunday, Oct. 21, at First United Methodist Church by the Rev. Mike Frese. Burial followed in the Episcopal Cemetery.

He was born in Elizabeth City to the late Enoch Pratt and Gertrude Evans Fearing and was the widower of Florence Alston Fearing. He was a retired mailman for the U.S. Postal Service. Mr. Fearing was a loyal supporter and trustee of Louisburg College and was recently inducted as an Inaugural Member of the Louisburg College Athletic Hall of Fame.

Surviving: a daughter, Pat Fearing Routh of Greensboro; sister, Trudie F. White; brother, Raymond E. “Boopie” Fearing, both of Elizabeth City; four grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren; and a very special friend, Nellie Williams of Elizabeth City.

Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by a son, Fred Alston Fearing.

The family suggests in lieu of flowers, memorial gifts be made to either the Fearing Scholarship Fund at Louisburg College, 501 N. Main Street, Louisburg, NC 27549; First United Methodist Church’s Building Fund, P. O. Box #401, Elizabeth City, NC 27907; or to one’s favorite charity.
