RALEIGH - John R. Prince Jr. went to be with the Lord on January 28, 2008. He was born in Mullins, South Carolina on January 20, 1940 to Pearl Ray and John R. Prince Sr. He is predeceased by his first wife, Kay U. Prince. He is survived by his second loving wife, Brenda N. Prince; two sons: John R. Prince III and his wife Jami of Tega Cay, SC; James Ashley Warwick and his wife Heather of Raleigh, NC; and two daughters: Mary Mac Weems and husband Shawn of Raleigh, NC; Terra Warwick of Raleigh, NC. He is also survived by six grandchildren: Sierra, Fallon, and Jackson Prince; Cooper and Anna Shearin Warwick; and Victoria Weems. He is survived by his second mother, Myra S. Prince; and two brothers: William B. Prince and wife Donna of North Myrtle Beach, SC; James A. Prince and wife Fran of Greensboro, NC. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

John was educated in the public schools of North Carolina and graduated from Myers Park High School in Charlotte, NC. He also attended NCSU and Wake Forest University. His business career began with Revelle Builders in Murfreesboro, NC. Before selling to the employees and retiring, he owned Bobbitt & Associates and Bobbitt International LTD. In 1995, he bought into Steel Dynamics where he retired in 2005. John was also involved in real estate development and was one of the founders of Pack Rat Portable Mini Storage.

John was actively involved in the following: Bay Leaf Baptist Church, Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary, Wolfpack Club, Raleigh Rescue Mission, NC Baptist Foundation, Hiram #40 Masonic Lodge, the Scottish Rite, Bay Leaf Community Historical Foundation, and Amran Temple. He was a charter member of the North Raleigh Exchange Club and served as club president and state president. He was the noted author of “My Very Best Friend, Charlie Campbell.” Although he received many awards and much recognition, he considered himself “one of God’s little nobodies”.

His celebration of life will be on Thursday, January 31st, at 2:00 pm at Bay Leaf Baptist Church, 12200 Bay Leaf Church Rd., Raleigh, NC. The family will receive friends after interment in the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Bay Leaf Baptist Church Capital Campaign.
