ELMER W. HARRIS


ARCOLA - Elmer Wemyss Harris, 86, died Monday, Feb. 11, 2008 at Community Memorial Hospital in South Hill, Va. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 14, at Reedy Creek Baptist Church, with the Revs. Harold DeLong and Larry Henderson officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

He was the son of the late Robert Ivory Harris and Myrtle Wemyss Harris, both of Warren County. He was a tobacco and cattle farmer and was the founder and president of Arcola Lumber Company and vice president of Arcola Hardwood Company, Inc. Mr. Harris served in the U.S. Marine Corps and was a veteran of WWII.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Marie Copley Harris; a sister, Vivian Phares; and a brother, Robert A. Harris.

Surviving: his children, Gary Cameron Harris of Arcola, Kimberly Scott Harris of Youngsville, and Elmer Wemyss Harris II of Roanoke Rapids; sister, Rosalyn Ryals; brother, Willard B. Harris; one granddaughter; and two step-grandsons.

The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 tonight (Wednesday, Feb. 13) at Blaylock Funeral Home, 203 N. Front St., Warrenton.
