DELIA M. SMITH


CASTALIA - Delia Mangum Smith, 84, died Tuesday, April 1, 2008, at Wake Medical Center.

Funeral services were conducted Thursday night, April 3, in the J. M. White Funeral Home chapel by the Rev. Luke Smith. Graveside services were conducted Friday, April 4, in the Red Bud Baptist Church cemetery on NC 58 Highway, Castalia.

She was born in Dinwiddie County, Va., the daughter of the late W. J. Mangum and Hettie Longmire Mangum, and was the widow of Bruce Smith. She was a retired nurse at Maria Parham Medical Center, where she worked for 20 years.

Surviving: one daughter, Dale S. Hamilton of Hanover, Pa.; two sons, Louis Melvin Smith of Castalia and H. Terry Smith of Franklinton; two sisters, Mary M. Bennett of Springfield, Va., and Margaret M. Pridgen of Spring Hope; two brothers, Oliver Thomas Mangum of Chesapeake, Va., and James W. Mangum of Gaithersburg, Md.; 13 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a church of one’s choice.

She was preceded in death by two daughters, Beth S. Simmons and Dianne W. Abbott, and one son, Gary Phillip Smith.
