DUNN - Alice Melissa Coates, 88, died Tuesday, April 15, 2008 at Duke Raleigh Hospital. A funeral service was conducted Thursday, April 17, at First Baptist Church in Dunn, with Dr. Richard McDuffie and Dr. Len Keever officiating. Burial followed in Greenwood Cemetery.

She was a native of Dunn, born the daughter of the late Charlie “Cad” and Nina Fitzgerald Barnes U. Coates. She was the wife of the late F. Wesley Coates and was a retired bookkeeper.

Surviving: a daughter, Nina Coates Freeman (Numa Franklin Jr.) of Louisburg; three grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.
