CASTALIA - John Darrell Turner, 70, died Tuesday, Dec. 9, 2008 at the VA Hospital in Durham. Funeral services were Friday, Dec. 12, in the chapel of Bright Funeral Home in Wake Forest. Burial followed in the family cemetery.

He was born in Franklin County, son of the late Novie Gupton Turner and Ruebin Eugene Turner. He was a retired U.S. Army sergeant and a member of Cedar Rock First Baptist Church in Castalia.

Surviving: wife, Edna Smith Turner; sons, Anthony Turner and David Turner, both of Columbus, Ga.; stepson, Johnny Allen of Wake Forest; sisters, Ann Champion (William) of Louisburg, Joyce Crowder (Nelson), Carol Boone (Robert), all of Knightdale; and two grandchildren.
