KITTRELL - Charlie Battle Mims, 85, died Wednesday, Jan. 28, 2009 at Maria Parham Medical Center. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. today (Saturday, Jan. 31) at Kittrell Church of God, conducted by the Rev. Greg Carswell. Burial will follow at 2 p.m. in Oakwood Cemetery in Raleigh.

Born in Johnston County, he was the son of the late Charlie Ivan and Thelma Stephens Mims. He was a retired employee of Clancy and Theys Construction Company and was a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran.

Surviving: wife, Ruth Bridgers Mims; daughters, Teresa M. Bell of Raleigh and Rebecca Ann Mims of Kittrell; sons, Lester I. Mims of Newport News, Va. and Charles B. Mims, Graham B. Mims and Aubrey Yates Mims, all of Kittrell; sisters, Doris M. Allen and Edna M. Barham, both of Garner; seven grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Mary M. Lee, and two brothers, John S. and Donald E. Mims.
