Honoring the sacrifice of a fallen Marine’s family
Honoring the sacrifice of a fallen Marine’s family
The true cost of war and service to our country was in sharp focus Saturday at the National Guard Armory in Louisburg as the U.S. Marines — along with a congressman and several members of the community -- paused to honor the family of a young marine who paid the ultimate price.
Pictured (Above): SOLEMN PRESENTATION. Two U.S. Marines, Sgt. Michael S. Wagner and Staff Sgt. Joshua M. Jarman, present roses to Terry Lancaster in memory of her father, Staff Sgt. Bobby Jack Ruddle, who was killed in the Korean War. The rose is the symbol for Marines’ mothers, wives and daughters since it has both the flower and the thorn. The bouquet of red roses represents love, the lone white rose, loss, according to Marine Sgt. Angel J. Velasquez, who narrated the ceremony. The Lancaster family includes (seated, from the left) Don, Logan, Ramsey and Terry. Flowers also were presented to Ramsey, and Logan received a memento of the event.

Remembering the attack on Peal Harbor
Remembering the attack on Peal Harbor
GOOD MORNING: Today, Wednesday, December 7, 2011 marks the 70th Anniversary of the sneak attack on Pearl Harbor by the Japanese Empire that President Franklin Delano Roosevelt proclaimed, “A Day That Will Live In Infamy,” and plunged the United States and me, too,  into WW11 roughly 17 months later.
As I have noted on numerous occasions, I remember exactly where I was and what I was doing when I first heard the news.

More guns in more places
Here is some extra holiday advice you will need this year, thanks to the General Assembly.
